Alex Hormozi on mindset and self-worth

Hormozi treats self-worth as something you build by caring less about outside opinion, rooting for yourself before anyone else does, and refusing inherited assumptions such as that suffering proves love or that you must win big pursuits. He tries to adopt an older person's perspective now and sees even a miserable past job as useful.

Spend a lifetime caring less what others think → Pull the 80-year-old's perspective forward

In 2023 he described caring less about others' opinions as a slow lifelong drift (about 30% better per decade); by 2026 he actively tries to pull his 80-year-old perspective forward now.

Alex Hormozi on business & sales

2023–2025

“I think that they have to have the power to influence, and that is across lots of things, just they have to be able to move other people, and you can define sales as the ability to get people to comply with your request, you can define leadership the same way, management, marketing to a degree is getting people to comply with a larger request, you know, publicly. But I think that fundamentally is a skill that people have to have if they're going to be successful at entrepreneurship. They have to have tremendous drive, whether that's a combination of towards or away, so they have a big mission that they really want to achieve or they have some very big fear that they're running away from. Either way I think the fuel works. Just from a pure entrepreneurship perspective, third piece is impulse control, is that they have to be able to say no to things on a regular basis for an extended period of time. And I think they have to be able to boil down the success of their business into inputs and outputs. Like, if you do not know the inputs that are going to get the output that you want, then what are you doing?”

Alex Hormozi on discipline & work ethic

2023–2025

“So, I routinely get asked the secret to success. And it just comes down to this. Number one, get better. Number two, never stop. If you do only those two things, you will win on a long enough time horizon. The problem is people convince themselves they no longer want something once they see the experience of how hard it really is. So I want to set this expectation for you as you head off to practice scripts, mark your calendar, and set your alarms. The work begins when your motivation ends. Just win.”

Alex Hormozi on life, critics & happiness

2023–2025 · changed view

“For me it's always been about autonomy. I just be able, I want to be able to do what I find interesting, and that's been the core of it. And what I do will change, but the core of having the freedom to do it has been the center of it. And so for me I don't think my freedom has, I mean, not in recent history, my freedom hasn't fundamentally changed in any way. And so I would say that I'm the same level of contentedness as I was last year, but I find engagement in what I do, and that's, I'll give you my definition of happiness, which is doing what you like to do with people you like and doing that as much as you possibly can, and that's my simple definition.”
