Privacy

The short version

You can use The Gist Of without an account. What you save and watch stays in your browser. If you sign in with Google, we store your library with your account so it follows you to other devices. We don't sell data or run ads.

What we store

  • Without signing in: your Watch later list, history and where you stopped in each supercut are kept in your browser's local storage. They never reach our servers.
  • If you sign in with Google: your name, email address and profile picture from Google, and a copy of your library (saved supercuts, history, where you stopped) linked to your account.
  • To protect the site from abuse: a one-way hash of your IP address with a request count, used for rate limiting. These counters are deleted within about a day. We never store the raw IP address for this.
  • If you submit a video: the YouTube link and topic you send.

Services we rely on

  • Vercel hosts the site. Like any web host, it sees your IP address and keeps short-lived request logs.
  • Supabase runs our database and the Google sign-in.
  • Google handles sign-in when you choose it, under Google's own privacy policy.
  • YouTube serves the video thumbnails. The video player loads only when you press play, from YouTube's privacy-enhanced (no-cookie) domain. Once it plays, YouTube's privacy policy applies to the player.

Google Analytics tells us how the site is used: which pages and supercuts are viewed, searches, filters, plays, saves, shares and sign-ins. Events carry supercut names and the choices you made, never your name or email. Google Analytics doesn't store full IP addresses. Advertising features and Google Signals are off.

Vercel Web Analytics counts page views and where visitors come from. It uses no cookies and stores no personal information.

Cookies and local storage

We don't use advertising cookies. Your browser's local storage holds your library and, if you sign in, your sign-in session. Clearing your browser data removes both.

Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (such as _ga) to count returning visits. For visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland it runs without cookies: it sends anonymous, cookieless pings instead. You can also block it with any content blocker, or with Google's opt-out add-on; the site works the same either way.

Your choices

  • Use the site without signing in; everything still works on this browser.
  • Sign out at any time from the account menu.
  • To delete your account and its stored library, email privacy@mindsuncut.com from the address you signed in with. We delete it within 30 days.

Children

The Gist Of isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
